Just adorable

This top was made for my grand daughter who is wanting a more feminine look in her clothing. She fit into a size Large which I shortened by 1 1/2" above the waistline, other than that it was a straight sew.
This was supposed to be her tester top, but turned out very wearable, I've made her another already. Oh, I also cut the skirt as a full circle instead of the drop in the back, that was easy.

Great pattern

This was my first time sewing a garment that wasn't a t-shirt, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. My only complaint is that I find the sizing for all E&M patterns to be off. By their chart, I'm an XL Bust, an XXL Waist, and a LG Hip. I measured myself so many times trying to be absolutely sure, and it always came out to the same result. Due to my lack of experience, I decided to take an average and just make the XL, as I wasn't ready to get into pattern grading.

As soon as I cut the front, I knew that it was going to be waaayyy too big. So I cut it down to the LG size and just made that. It fit great everywhere, except the waist was *still* too loose! I don't get how E&M patterns list me as an XXL waist, when in reality I'm a MED. That's so frustrating as these patterns are really geared for beginners (one of the reasons I love them!). I wish they would provide the measurements of the finished garment to make that process easier.

I will definitely be making this again, though, as it's a really cute top! Now that I know I'm actually a LG with a MED waist, I will treat E&M patterns accordingly going forward.

Very pretty

This design is very pretty. I haven't been able to figure out the right height adjustment for myself so I don't have a top that fits well yet.

Beautiful day - beautiful top.

OK, I want to get the one big negative for me out of the way first as the top itself is stunning as per other reviews - but some shortcuts on the pattern/templates itself we're a big letdown for me and the reason why I have marked it down. If it hadn't been for this, it would have been another 5 star review.
The big negative for me is the doubling up of some the pattern templates - which left me feeling cheated, and also added a lot of time and inconvenience to the make.
You accept that you only get one pattern template for sections where you need to cut multiple identical pieces (ie. sleeves, pockets etc..) but you expect there to be a separate template pieces for sections that are different, even if they are largely similar to another section. Such as front and back bodice templates as the necklines are different, and for this design, the front and back flounce/skirt templates as the lengths are vastly different. However this was not the case - you only get one template for each of these with instructions to cut to this line for the front, and this line for the back.
If these cut lines were straight and you could simply cut to the outer-most line for the back and then fold to the inner-most line for the front, I may have understood the shortcut, grumbled to myself for a while and then forgiven it - but as the lines are curved, this just isn't possible. For the flounce in particular you really need a separate template for each, so it therefore forces you to find a way to trace or duplicate these sections. The bodice was pretty straightforward as it fitted on my trusty roll of baking parchment but the flounce in particular was a nightmare due to the odd shape and size (it is both wide and long). I guess you could re-print just those sections so you have two of each, but I, like many others don't have a printer, so I use the A0 copyshop pdf and send it away to be printed. So you can imagine how frustrated I was to get it back and find I couldn't simply cut out my size and start making, I had to find some way of duplicating the two biggest template pieces.
I feel this was a lazy option for Ellie and Mac and it is giving me concern about other patterns I have already purchased and had printed at a copy shop, but haven't yet made as I think this same system may have been used for some of them which will put me off making them which is a shame.
But now onto the positives of which there are many - ultimately the end result is another stunner from Ellie and Mac! Instructions are easy to follow, and there is a you tube tutorial too so you can sew along with it, always helpful! The end result is a beautiful, feminine top in a style that suits all shapes and sizes.
I found it came up a little bigger on the bodice than I expected (a happy discovery - as a curvy girl, I often find the opposite), but it was very simple to take the sides in a little to achieve the fit I wanted.
I really love the sleeves with the flounce - the fit and length was really good, not too tight (I often struggle with sleeves being on the tight side) and the little flounce was very easy to attach and adds a little special something to the overall look.
I wanted the front and back flounce to be as long as possible to cover my tummy and sit/flow nicely at the back over my generous behind - so I cut both to the longest length front and back with the plan I could trim the length if needed - as it turned out, they were the perfect length for me.
I was a little disappointed there wasn't an option for pockets, so I added my own at the side seams of the flounce (I used the pocket template and sewing instructions from the South shore romper and positioned them 1" down from the top of the flounce where it joins the bodice so they would all match up when it was time to join them) - they were nicely hidden and worked really well.
I would choose a slightly different fabric next time as mine was quite silky and slippery which made it tricky to sew in parts to ensure I caught all layers in the overlocker. But it does need to be a thinner weight to get the right drape and flow. I also skipped making the waist tie this time and instead opted to wear a narrow belt with it to complete the look. I love it and will definitely make it again (especially after going to all the effort of duplicating the template pieces!)

Beautiful Pattern

I love this top! Super flattering for my plus size frame. It was quick and easy to sew up and I loved the look. If this pattern gets an update I would love to see the tie size in a chart or list in the instructions section of the pattern for easy finding.

Beautiful Day Top

I made myself this top on a whim. (I usually sew up stuff for the grandkids.) I received so darn many compliments when I wore that I'm now busy making several up, one for Easter, one for Saturdays, one for ......oh you get it; I just love it and the compliments. It is also a quick and easy sew----and I actually hate sewing most knits.

I needed a quick and easy pattern to make a few tops for work, and the Beautiful Day top was exactly what I was looking for! It's a fast sew, and it's beautiful! I was able to transition from work to dinner one evening by simply changing my slacks to a long skirt so it's an extremely versatile piece! Thanks for such a great pattern!
