Did you know that Ellie and Mac has a sewing pattern for slow cookers? It's called the Warm and Cozy Slow Cooker Carrier Pattern. It's such a great pattern to have if you want to transport your slow cooker to a potluck or barbecue, but don't want the lid popping off in your car, or making a mess as you carry it.
The bottom and sides of the carrier are quilted with heat safe interfacing (the same type of interfacing that's used for oven mitts). And the top of the carrier features a unique drawstring casing to keep your lid on as you transport the slow cooker.
Plus, it's so cute! Doesn't this one look like the perfect chili cook off carrier?

This pattern is designed for oval shaped slow cookers, but because every slow cooker is a slightly different size, we've made the pattern customizable based on your exact slow cooker measurements.

In the pattern instructions, we show you how to measure the crockpot and choose your size and handle depth, but what if your slow cooker is an outlier and has huge handles on the side?
Extra Wide Handles?
Do you see how this slow cooker below has much wider handles than the one in the picture above?

Hey, that's easy to fix! Just follow the instructions below.
Instructions to Adjust Cut-Outs:
The pattern is designed with a handle cut-out area that is 3" (7,6cm) wide. The seam allowance for this pattern is 1/2"(1,3cm). So, after sewing the exterior fabric to the lining, the cut-out area ends up being 4" wide (10,2cm).

But, what if you measure your slow cooker handles and they are 5" wide? No problem.
All you need to do is shave off the same amount on both sides of the handle cut-out. Make sure to not just cut on just one side of the gap, or else the handle cut-outs won't end up being in the correct spot.
So in this example, we would cut 1/2" (1,3cm) from both sides of the cut-out area.

And don't forget to also cut the same amount from the lining piece.

Then, just continue to follow the instructions from the pattern. Once you sew the exterior and lining pieces together at this spot, you will end up with a large enough cut-out to pop the handles through perfectly.
